EZ Driving Directions |

Yahoo Maps has a brand new interface. They've added a feature that's very cool for people looking for driving directions. It's called live traffic. It's a very nice feature that adds little flags to your driving directions where there are traffic problems. If you click the little flag you can even view details about that particular traffic problem. This new interface has caused some new deficiencies, and failed to fix some old ones however. Is the new interface an improvement? |

EZ Driving Directions has found that there are two new technologies being used, Flash and AJAX. Ajax enables the maps to be zoomed in on and panned north south east or west without having to reload the page every time you move the map. This alone far exceeds the old Mapquest technology. Flash on the other hand was a poor choice of technology to use. the EZ driving directions crew noticed that the use of Flash made all the street names and landmarks etc kinda fuzzy and hard to see. The EZ Driving Directions crew is quite familiar with Flash and recognized the problem immediately. The quality settings are just set too low. This is probably done to make the maps and driving directions load faster. While we appreciate the speed we don't appreciate things that are fuzzy and hard to see. This is especially noticeable when printing out the driving directions. All the other features of yahoo maps absolutely rock! Our favorite is probably the traffic problem flags. If there is a traffic problem along your route, yahoo maps displays a little flag at that location. You can even get detailed info about the problem. Now that's helpful!
