Mappoint

     Easy Driving Directions

Mappoint is Microsoft's attempt at competeing with Mapquest, Google Maps and others. Sadly, it's like most Microsoft products. It's targeted at people who don't know any better, doesn't have many features and doesan't work the way it says it does.

EZ Driving Directions tested their driving directions many times because we were stunned to see long established address not being recognized as valid address. In addition, the actual driving directions mappoint returned were not only very hard to see because the map is so small (no way to make it bigger either), but they also gave us a very slow route. It alsways choose the geographical shorter driving directions instead of the quickest route.

For example it would skip it wouldn't recomend we use a street with a speed limit of 45 mph, instead favoring a street w/ a 30 mph speed limit and way more stops signs and less lanes because it was geographical shorter. There is an option to choose the route with less distance over the fastest route (not always the same are they), even though gthe route that's 2 blocks longer is actually about twice as fast.

The interface provided is awkward to work with and leads to typing the address multplie times. No one likes that - that's NOT EZ driving directions is it?

As mentioned previously the actual map is far too small. They also don't seem to know the basics of good web design. Everything on the driving directions section of their huge MSN site is all cramped up in the top left corner of the page. This makes it quite difficult to see.

EZ Driving Directions could go on and on about how lame this driving directions site is - just avoid using Mappoint for driving directions. It's even worse than MAPQuest!
